An APK (Android Package Kit) is the file format used to distribute and install applications on Android devices. It contains all the elements needed for an app to function, including code, resources, assets, certificates, and manifest files. APK files are similar to .exe files on Windows. Users can download APKs from the Google Play Store or third-party sources. Installing APKs manually is known as “side loading,” which requires enabling unknown sources in device settings. While APKs offer flexibility, downloading from Untrusted sites can pose security risks, such as malware or data theft.
