Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder caused by abnormal electrical discharges in the brain. It is generally characterized by recurrent epileptic fits and short periods of unusual behaviour, loss of consciousness or abnormal sensations. Epilepsy is one of the most common and serious disorders of the brain.
Epilepsy can be a result of several insults to the brain such as head injury, abnormalities of the blood vessels in the brain, stroke, infections involving brain such as granulomas, encephalitis, meningitis and abscesses, brain tumors, fever associated seizures in childhood, structural abnormalities of brain development, metabolic and genetic disorders and so on.
