"In the near future we will sign the contract, which has come from the Audit Council", said the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Giorgos Karagiannis, speaking to ERT1, while adding that "the project has a construction time of 4 years and is going to free the city from traffic as the volume of vehicles served per hour will be doubled, from 5,000 today to 10,000 per direction (so a total of 20,000 vehicles)".

At the end of August, the financial part of the project was locked, since by decision of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, it joined the TPA 2021-2025 with funding of 478 million euros. The final contractor of the project is the AVAX-MYTILINEOS scheme.

The aim is to have the first construction sites set up by the end of 2022, and by the end of 2026 to be put into traffic.

It is a "road above the road", the longest aerial road in Greece. The total length of the project is 13 kilometers and includes the construction of an Elevated Expressway, approximately 9.5 kilometers long, four of which are continuous bridges (hence the name Flyover), as well as 9 uneven junctions and 3 new tunnels. The new road will consist of four lanes, two - plus the emergency lane (LEA) - in each direction.

As has been confirmed, there will be no tolls and together with the completion of the Metro (end of 2023) they will help Thessaloniki become the capital of the Balkans.
