Flange facing machines are widely used in on-site industry to resurface all kinds of machined flanges.Some are general purpose machines,and others are used to perform highly specialized operations.

 

MT’s flange facing machines are designed to machining flange surface and hole automatically.A flange facing machine can be thought of as being a spcial  and portable lathe for repairing flanges.In turning,the unwanted material of a flange is removed by a cutting tool as chips,so that the desired geometry,tolerance,and surface roughness are obtained.This requires that the cutting tool material is harder than the flange material.Cutting tool selection criteria depend on the material of the flange and the speed needed for metal cutting.

 

Facing is based on a two-dimensional surface creation,which means that two relative motions are necessary between the cutting tool and flange material.These motions are defined as the primariy motion,which mainly determines the cutting speed,and the feed motion,which provides the cutting zone with new material.The primary motion is provided by the rotation of the facing arm driven by a electric motor ,hydraulic motor,or pneumatic motor.The feed motion is a translation of the tool holder along the guide rail fixed on the facing arm. 

 

1.Cutting speed 

Generaly,a flange facing machine have a large machining range,so how to calculate the cutting speed is critial for a repair work. Because the processing diameter range is different, the drive motor is required to have a range of speed regulation.The cutting speed V is the instantaneous velocity of the primary motion of the facing arm(at a selected point on the cutting edge) relative to the flange surface,and can be expressed as 

V=πdn 

Where "V" is the cutting speed in m/min,"d" the diameter of the flange surface to be cut in meters,and "n" the facing arm or spindle rotation in rev/min. 

 

2.Feed speed 

The feed of a flange facing machine may be defined as the distance the cutting tool advances along the length of the flange surface or hole for revolution of  the spindle.Our flange facing machine can feed automatically in both axial and radical direction.The feed motion is driven by the gear mechanism and can produce the “phonograph” shape on the flange surface,which can meet the ASME B16.5 standard.
