The submarine tunnel Preveza - Akti began construction in 1995 and was completed in 2002. The project budget was 58,904,232 euros and is considered one of the most expensive public works in our country. Until 2002, this strait was connected only by ferry by ferry and with a total transit time of close to 30 minutes.

Generally, it is a tunnel of 2,907 meters with 1/3 of it located at the bottom of the sea (909 meters). The submarine section consists of 8 prefabricated elements and its maximum depth reaches 27 meters, making it the deepest point you can lead in the country.
Finally, the toll station is located in Aktio and pedestrians and cyclists are not allowed to cross. Also, vehicles with dangerous loads or fuel are allowed to cross on certain days and hours of the week. Their cost is 0.70 euros for a motorcycle and 3 euros for cars.
