Authorities in the South Korean city of Busan, with the support of the United Nations, will set up a floating state just outside the port of the city consisting of tangential islands. The design of the floating city, if created, will be the first of its kind in the world undertaken by Oceanix, based in New York.
All buildings in the floating city will have photovoltaic systems so that the city is energy autonomous. The floating city will produce its own drinking water and will have a series of aeroponic and hydroponic food production systems to have 100% autonomy in the residence of the inhabitants there. Futuristic boats are also planned with which the inhabitants and the visitors of the city will move to and from it.
The city will be designed to withstand a variety of extreme events such as floods, hurricanes or tsunamis. The hexagonal islands will be made of a material three times stronger than cement but which can float on water. Also the islands will be tied to the bottom with anchors. The construction cost of this floating city is estimated at $ 200 million. It has not yet been decided who will be able to stay in this city or if a choice is made what the criteria will be. The goal, however, is for the works to start immediately and for this floating city to be ready to welcome its first inhabitants in 2025.
