A village in Italy is preparing to auction 20 houses at the symbolic price of two euros each. Value equivalent to a cup of coffee.

In 2019, the Italian government sold houses in small villages in the hope of bringing them to life for only 1 euro. The ambitious plan brought life to the area and the villages of Taranto and Cinquefrondi decided to participate. But the Sicilian village of Sambuca di Sicilia has doubled the price for 20 abandoned houses it has - two euros - reports CNN.

Soprano Lorraine Bracco last year bought a 200-year-old house at such an auction and turned it into her dream home, according to the HGTV series "My Big Italian Villa".

The property is located in the historic center of the village, which was deserted when an earthquake struck the area in 1968. Most of the houses offered are 50 to 80 square meters.

All bidders will have to pay a deposit guarantee of 5,000 euros, which will be refunded if they fail to purchase them. The buyer still has three years to complete the renovation.

The offer is valid until November 5, 2021.
