Terrified residents of southeastern Mexico saw the ground recede and a hole about 70 meters in diameter open threatening a house just a few meters from its crater.

For no apparent geological cause (eg earthquake, etc.), the ground receded last weekend, opening a huge gap that swallowed part of a field in the state of Puebla.

The hole has not stopped growing since then as the muddy ground continues to recede and the house next door from time to time will be in the mud. The occupants were warned not to even approach it.

A sinkhole measuring about 230 feet across appeared in southeastern Mexico, putting a house in danger of being swallowed. https://t.co/gq7iXLLpxt pic.twitter.com/kMiGVznWEi

The depth of the hole is already said to have exceeded 15 meters. The first estimate of the geologists speaks of a possible rift that will exist below the area.

Neighbors will now wonder who would say "if I do not, let the earth open up to swallow me", to blame him for the phenomenon.
