Lake Sorvagsvatn, also known as Leitisvatn, is a lake on Vagar Island in the Faroe Islands, and is their largest lake. What is impressive, however, is not its size, but the fact that it is located… on the North Atlantic Ocean, 40 meters above sea level.

It is surrounded by a high hill, which prevents its water from falling into the ocean, with the Bøsdalafossur waterfall being the only water outlet. The high height of the hills on each side of the waterfall, in fact, gives the feeling from some angles that the lake is even higher than reality.
