Many things may have changed in the world since the pandemic, but one thing is still certain: 1 euro homes in Italy.
For those who dream of moving to the neighboring country at some point, this is the perfect opportunity as the municipality of the village of Castiglione di Sicilia took out its 900 abandoned houses with just one euro!
The village is located at the foot of Mount Etna, near Taormina and the beaches of the east coast of Sicily, while the aim of this initiative is to revive the village which since the beginning of 1900, has shrunk from 14,000 inhabitants to just 3,000.
Mayor Antonino Camarda said he wanted to revitalize the village, bringing people back. "We have a huge architectural heritage to save, full of history. "Over time, too many people left, leaving behind a number of old, picturesque houses, many of which date back to the Renaissance," he told CNN.
"We have carried out an in-depth study of each property based on maps and cadastral data. "Depending on the situation they are in, the houses will be sold at different prices, starting from 1 euro".
Some houses in better condition, are sold more expensive, starting from 4,000 - 5,000 euros.
In any case, interested buyers should state the type of house they want and give a detailed plan for its renovation. If selected they will have to complete the renovation within three years.
