Thessaloniki: The upgrade and renovation of the "Macedonia" airport, which now resembles a palace, has been completed.

Managed and operated by Fraport Greece, it delivered to the public a highly upgraded airport, which has twice the area, two terminals connected by an air bridge, modern gray design, brand new check-in areas, double departure gates, new restaurants and much more.
The investment amounted to 440 million euros and… the new airport, whose upgrade started in 2017, was completed three months earlier than the existing schedule.
The projects that turned it into an impressive space, was the construction of a new airport with an area of 34,100 sq.m. as an extension of the existing one and the creation of a new access and renovation of the existing airport. The increase of check-in points by 45%, (from 30 to 44) while the security and control points were made from 6, 14. The installation of a modern baggage control and management system. Departure gates increased from 16 to 24, while baggage handling increased to 7 from 4.
At the same time, the sewage treatment plant was expanded and connected to the EYATH network, a new fire station was built, two new access control outposts in the area of aircraft activities, the road was renovated at the landing areas - aircraft parking and remodeling of the aircraft.
