The 2024 Olympic Games will be held in Paris and the French government is looking for ways to reduce the expected traffic congestion on the streets of the French capital. Paris, like most big cities, has serious problems with traffic on the streets and given the presence of millions of visitors in the city on race days, it is considered certain that suffocating conditions will be created on the road network of the French capital.

The French government and the Paris authorities are looking for ways to alleviate traffic congestion and are seriously considering the use of flying taxis to transport tourists and residents to the city during the Games. In recent years, many prototype passenger vehicles have appeared, most of which are in the eVTOL category.

These are autonomous or manned electric vertical take-off / landing vehicles ideal for use in urban environments. On average, these vehicles can carry 4-5 passengers while the new models presented have great autonomy and can perform flights over distances of a few hundred kilometers. This in this case means that someone who wants to watch the games in Paris can choose to stay in a suburb of the city and move to the center or wherever he wants by flying taxis easily and quickly.

For this purpose, tests will be organized at Pontoise Airport, located in the Cormeilles-en-Vexin area, a suburb of Paris, 63 km from the French capital. "Pontoise is ideal to be the testing platform for a new mode of air travel. "These tests will address a broader perspective on the use of innovative and environmentally friendly air transport at low altitudes below 300 meters above the ground, which is a selection of flights that has not been explored to date," said Augustin de Romanet, CEO consultant to Aéroports de Paris, the agency that manages Paris's three major international airports.

As it became known, about 30 companies that make flying vehicles that can be used as taxis at the Paris Olympic Games will take part in the tests that will take place. If the plan is to go ahead, the necessary infrastructure such as boarding / disembarking stations, called vertiports, will have to be set up in Paris. Of course, this does not make sense to use it only once, so if it is decided to use the flying taxis in Paris at the Olympic Games, the capital of France will become the first in Europe to provide this service to its residents and visitors.
