According to NASA plans, the first manned mission after half a century to the Moon will take place in 2024 under the Artemis program. This first mission will involve at least one female astronaut who will also be the first to emerge from the moon, writing history as the first woman to set foot on our natural satellite.

This woman together with her colleagues may have at their disposal for their movements on the surface of the Moon a buggy type vehicle built by the two companies.

"These next-generation vehicles will greatly increase the ability of astronauts to explore the Moon and discover data that will help us better understand our position in our solar system," said Rick Ambrose, Executive Vice President of Lockheed Martin

NASA has asked the private sector for ideas to build an astronaut transport vehicle to the surface of the Moon. NASA calls this vehicle the Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV) and will initially be used by missions that will travel to the moon's south pole.

Although the two companies have not signed an agreement with the US space agency, they worked together to build the vehicle, believing that if they do, even if NASA does not acquire it, there will be interest from other space services that are also preparing for manned missions to the Moon such as those of the European Union, China and Russia.

The two companies did not give many details about their new vehicle but released a picture of it and stated that it will be electric and the original model will be designed to transport two astronauts to the surface of the Moon.
